4/4/2011: The day and night video is pretty good. The installation process was flawless. Unfortunately I can't use the camera as a baby monitor since the audio static is awful. The static is so loud you can't hear anything. Hopefully Dlink will address my concern. I'll update my review once I hear back from them. See my video if you'd like to hear the bad static. Also Dlink hasn't fixed the audio problem with the Iphone App. You only get video with the Iphone. I have the Iphone 4 with iOS 4.3 installed. 4/5/2011: I contacted Dlink support. They said they know about the audio problem and they don't plan to fix it. Ughh! I'm going to return this one and see if a new one sounds better. I'll post more once I get the new one. 4/14/2011: I received my new DCS-932L from Amazon today. The audio is just as bad with this camera. What a shame. I even upgraded my java version to 1.6.0_24-b07. Ughh. Time to send it back or pray for a firmware fix. 8/31/2011: We've started to use this camera all the time since our baby is older and Iphone support has been added. The audio is good enough where we can hear him. I just wish Dlink would get rid of the static. 18 of 18 people found the following review helpful: D-Link DCS-932L or Linksys WVC80N - which is best for you ? This review is from: D-Link Systems DCS-932L mydlink-Enabled Wireless N Day/Night Home Network Camera (Electronics) I was looking for a low cost wireless camera with better image quality than the Linksys WVC80N cameras that I have been using for a while. Side-by-Side, this is how the cameras compared. Bottom Line: Unless you need Night Vision or need the mobil phone apps, the Linksys WVC80N performs better at a lower price. Linksys has better image quality than D-Link at any distance, handles outdoor scenes when the D-Link won't and will deliver video clips (not just snapshots) by email or ftp. The Linksys does not have phone-apps, but it can email a 5 second motion triggered video clip that can be viewed on your android phone. Best Useage: The D-Link would be great as a baby cam or pet cam. The cute design, better audio and the night vision outperform the Linksys for these uses. The Linksys WVC80N would be better for any other use where the video quality under all lighting conditions (except dark) is the highest priority. Compare Image Quality @ 640x480 1. Color Quality - D-Link is a little better than Linksys, unless it is an outdoor view. The D-Link exposure control cannot manage any sunlit surfaces. Even grass and trees are completely washed out to white if they are in direct sun. There are no settings to fix this. In moderate light, the D-Link color is better than Linksys because the Linksys has a color hue gradient of red in the center to green at the perimeter. This color balance problem is distracting when viewing a white scene like snow or other very light backgrounds. 2. Image Clarity - With the two cameras side-by-side with the same scene of near-and-distant objects, the D-Link by comparison looks optically out-of-focus, though neither camera is great in this respect. If you want to recognize a face at a distance Linksys is better. The D-Link video clarity is fine for a baby's bedroom, because a near-field view does not demand the same sharp focus as a distant view. 3. Sound Quality - The D-Link has good audio performance on an wireless "N" lan when accesses directly within your home using the camera's local IP address. Very little "noise", no skipping or break-up and good microphone pickup. I didn't check it out across the internet or with the "MyDlink" connection, but I am guessing audio would not perform so well there . . as other reviewers have noted. The Linksys has more audio artifacts and is more vulnerable to the audio breaking up when the video settings are too demanding even on the local network. Across the internet with high speed cable service at both ends, the Video has to be set at "Low Quality" and 2 or 1 frames per second for the audio to work without breaking up. Some Feature Comparisons 1. The one obvious advantage with the D-Link is the night vision. It works pretty well up to 20 feet but the pictures are very soft-focus. For your night-time application you may want to consider that the 4 red LEDS are very bright and draw your eye to the camera. 2. The D-Link camera cannot stream video to a PC without using the full web management interface or using the MyDLink web service. With the Lynksys you can play the video stream directly on an iPad or on a PC using Google's Chrome browser without the surroundings of a web interface. Internet Explorer will only show 1 frame of a video stream if you bypass the full management interface explaining why Google Chrome is mentioned. With the Linksys camera, Right-Click on the video in the normal interface to get the URL for the direct video stream to used on your iPad or Chrome. The D-Link can display a single .jpeg snapshot without the managment interface. This feature can be enabled in the camera's web interface and it tells the address format to use. This is for direct access, not using MyDink. 2. The D-Link cannot upload a video clip to an ftp server when it sees motion. It will only upload a single .jpeg snapshot. This will often give you a useless premature snapshot of a shadow but not the person, or a door opening but not the person. With the Linksys .mjpeg video clip, no video compression is used so each frame is a good .jpeg snapshot. You can select the best frame from the 5 second video that would give you the best view of the motion event that triggered the clip. 3. The D-Link will only email 6 frames when it sees motion. You can choose 1 or 2 frames per second. It will include the 3 frames it had buffered before it saw motion which is a good feature. This makes the email feature much more usefull than the D-Link ftp upload of a single .jpeg snapshot. For motion detection features, you may prefer the Linksys which will email, ftp (or both) a 5 second video clip at a normal video frame rate. I had no reason to examine the motion detect performance on the D-Link camera, but the motion detection on this Linksys camera works much better that on the prior similar models. With careful detection-area and sensitivity tuning, motion detection works great. Motion Detection responds to shadows which makes outdoor use tricky but manageable. Shadows on the ground caused by wind blowing the trees will trigger the camera so your detction areas need to be carefully targeted at areas of interest. Setup / Wireless Compatibility Working in a related tech business, I believe the negative reviews on either of these products regarding wireless compatibility or networking issues are the result of bad programming on the manufacturer's setup CD or the buyer's lack of network troubleshooting experience. If you have a friend who is very tech-savy to help you get past wireless and networking complications, either of these products will work reliably on virtually any wireless network. Sometimes the installation CD's will simplify networking issues and sometime they won't. Reading the complaints on Amazon about the D-Link setup, I had the same problems but they were caused by poor programming on Setup CD; not the camera. If you get failure messages going through the Wizard on the CD, just use the web interface on the camera and save yourself a lot of grief. The web interface on the camera is excellent. Another reason to skip the DLink CD . . . it forces you to to create a MyDlink account with DLink even though you may have no need for the service because you prefer to port-forward to this camera. I returned this camera because it was a video quality downgrade from the Linksys cameras already in service. This review is from: D-Link Systems DCS-932L mydlink-Enabled Wireless N Day/Night Home Network Camera (Electronics) I had heard about the DCS-932L when it made its debut early in January and had been anxiously awaiting for it to go on sale. This is a great camera that is easy to set up. The picture quality is great, way better than I expected and the night vision on it is fantastic as well. I am primarily using it was a baby monitor and have another one in my sons play room. Its a great added bonus that you can view the cameras using Apple and Android products as I have an ipad and an Android phone. Though you can't hear sound on the apps you can still view your cameras from any website and can see both the video and hear the sound. My wife liked the added feature that the camera flashes when someone has plugged in and is watching. Great product and even better with such a low price! The WGR614 is a very attractive unit about the size of a small paperback with a silver exterior and rounded edges. An included plastic stand lets you stand the router on its edge to take up less space. The WGR614 makes it easy for even a novice to set up a wireless network: just plug the included Ethernet cable from your internet connection into the router and insert the included CD into any computer on the network, which will provide step-by-step instructions. The WGR614 employs a web-based interface for configuration, and the router will automatically do the initial setup by getting your DNS settings and determining your IP address. The firmware is also upgradeable via the web interface so you can be sure your router will always be up-to-date. Fast and Secure In addition to wireless access, there are four 10/100 Mbps RJ-45 Ethernet ports in the back for connecting computers to the network via a faster, wired connection. The WGR614 offers many security options to ensure your data is private. Double firewall protection keeps your network shielded from outside attacks. To ensure the security of your wireless data, both 40/64-bit, 128-bit, and 152-bit (802.11g only) WEP encryption is available, as well as WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access). You can also use MAC address authentication to allow only authorized users onto the network. Keep Tabs on Kids The NETGEAR WGR614 54 Mbps 802.11g Wireless Router is backed by a 1-year warranty. I see a lot of disgruntled people here who can't connect to the router wirelessly after changing settings. I would like to give a couple of tips. First of all, make sure you configure the router when you are hard wired. You have to ensure that you are connected to the router via a LAN cable whenever you are making any changes to the router's configuration. This way when the router restarts etc. you will still be connected to it. If you are carrying out any changes to the router through your wireless card, for example if you have changed the WEP encryption code in the router, then once you submit those changes, the router will not let your wireless card connect until your laptop's card is configured for the same WEP key. So once again, please ensure you carry out changes to the router only when hard wired. The moment you get your router, I suggest you carry out a firmware upgrade (go to netgear's support site and download the latest firmware for your model from there). Once again follow instructions and make sure you are connected through a cable to carry out the same. Now log onto the router and then do a couple of things. First of all, rename the SSID to anything you want (eg. Joan's Arc). Then go to the wireless settings, then to wireless access, and click on 'Disable SSID broadcast'. This ensures that the SSID is not broadcast to others around you who have a wireless machine. So when their software searches for a wireless access point all they will see is a blank name. To be able to connect to your network they would have to know the name of your SSID (Joan's Arc in this case) and manually type it in their machines (Highly unlikely that they will be able to think of the same name as you do. You can make your name even harder to obtain by simply using numeric characters in it.. for example Joan's Arc2004). Secondly, to make it secure use a 128 bit WEP key (this has to be a 26 digit key consisting of alphanumeric and numeric characters. You can use only certain alphabets in small and large case so you need to check that out. Also remember that you have to feed the same WEP key number in your laptop wireless card software (or the windows wireless settings if you are not using your wireless card's software). Finally you can ensure that only the wireless devices you specify can logon to your router. Go to the Wireless settings, then to wireless access setup and then click on 'enable wireless access'... Thereafter click on 'Setup access list'. Once there add your wireless device by using its mac address (the mac address is a unique number given to a wireless device, very much like a phone number- this enables the router to identify the device trying to connect to it). The mac address will be listed on your wireless device and you can also see all the devices that you can allow to connect to your router in the router's configuration window. (One important note to remember is that if you have already enabled WEP then you will have to first feed in the same key into your wireless device software settings before the router will display it in it's list of devices). Select the device that you want to allow to connect to your router and apply. Hope this helps to a certain extent to configure your routers. Trust me, this is an amazing router and if you are having connection problems, it most likely is due to the settings in the router- not because the router is faulty. 189 of 206 people found the following review helpful: Major problems, which Netgear has acknowledged - AVOID This review is from: Netgear WGR614 Wireless-G Router (Personal Computers) Do NOT purchase this router. I have been a happy Netgear customer in the past, and am technical enough to keep both home and small office wireless networks running fine, but this model has a hardware problem that Netgear tech support has finally acknowledged, but for which they are not providing an adequate fix. As others have mentioned, the router will often drop connectivity, and rebooting is the only solution. I bought one, had these problems start (luckily within the 90 day tech support window), and returned the router to Netgear (at my expense) in exchange for another one, which demonstrated the SAME problem less than 24 hours after installation. After yet another long call to India the latest tech support rep acknowledged that lots of these models are having the same problem, and upgrading to the latest firmware (which I did immediately upon installing both of these routers) won't fix it, so her solution was... send this one back (AGAIN at my expense) and they would send me yet another one of the SAME model, which she (for no defensible reason) assures me will work. For more background please see the Netgear tech support forums, where you will see scores of people experiencing the same problem and the same non-solution from Netgear. Save yourself the trouble and buy a different wireless router. This review is from: Netgear WGR614 Wireless-G Router (Personal Computers) I bought one of these to replace an SMC7004AWBR which stopped allowing admin logins and wouldn't reset to factory defaults. It installed like a dream, was really easy to set up, and worked fine--at first. Unfortunately, I work from home as a software engineer and system admin, and really need a reliable router--and this isn't it. Once I open too many simultaneous TCP connections, it'll crash--the lights blink as if it's still working, but it stops actually routing packets. I've tried a firmware upgrade, I've tried changing the MTU size, and next I think I'm going to try another brand of router... If you use BitTorrent, RSS aggregators, or other software that opens lots of TCP connections, avoid this router. Similarly, if you have several computers in simultaneous use, this device will only frustrate you. lasted little over 2 years never really happy with this unit. NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless-N300 Gigabit Router with USB WNR3500L
Manufacturer : Netgear Model : WNR3500L-100NAS ASIN : B002RYYZZS Price : 169$ See Special Offers Product DescriptionNetgear - RangeMax WNR3500L Open Source Wireless-N Gigabit Router WNR3500L-100NAS Routers & Gateways - Wireless 172 of 174 people found the following review helpful: Very Good Mid-Range Wireless Router This review is from: NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless-N300 Gigabit Router with USB WNR3500L (Personal Computers) I recently purchased one of these routers as a replacement for my Linksys WRT54GL, a stalwart in the realm of home networking. My Linksys router is healthy and it works but it does not allow me to set up DHCP reservations without a 3rd party firmware update, and it does not support Wireless-N. After searching for a good balance between functionality, quality and price I settled on this router by NetGear. So far I am very pleased with this unit, though I had some minor issues when setting it up. Setup of NetGear routers (including this one) is simple and easy. There are two methods of setting it up, using the Wizard CD or going in manually. For users not too familiar with setting up wireless networks or routers, using the CD to get started is a good option. More seasoned users may prefer to work without the CD and work directly with the router. I chose the latter of the two. Even so, tapping in and finding any given setting is relatively easy, everything broken down into several pages. Because the router configuration is accessed through a browser, manipulating the router configuration is very much like accessing a web page and should feel familiar. The factory-default username, password, and access address are printed right on the router itself so there is no risk of losing this information at any point. I connected 3 laptops, one at a time, to the wireless network and encountered my only difficulty with moving to this router. Because I retained the network name and key I expected the swap to be seamless and mostly invisible, but my systems each complained when tried to connect, stating that the network configuration had changed even though I retained the settings, the type, key and everything else. To get each system working I had to delete the connection completely, then I allowed each to redetect wireless networks available. Two of them came up without any further incident, but one of the laptops required a reboot before it would properly connect. Signal strength is important when it comes to wireless networks. My Linksys router gives me very strong signal strength, and I was fearful that this new NetGear router would lack the same power to broadcast. Happily, it broadcasts brightly enough that I have had no problems with connectivity due to losing signals. It is *at least* on par but seems to be stronger. My router lives on the second story of the house, while my personal laptop is in the basement. As soon as the router was configured and provided a connection to the internet, I logged in ang got a surprise - it is configured by factory default to look for firmware updates every time I log in. This is fine as logging into the router becomes an infrequent activity after a while, though up front it can be annoying to have to wait for it to download and then update itself. I have had no connectivity issues or drops since setting this router up. The DCHP reservation and MAC filtering work well, which are the two advanced features about which I care most. Something I have not seen in any other router up to this point is a USB port. According to the documentation, the router can be set up to provide persistent storage through the network by simply connecting a USB hard drive (or even a thumb drive) to it. I have not tried this but I absolutely plan to put this to work, which will make sharing files between the different computers simple without having to make several copies. It should be noted, though, that this could be a risky practice if using to access the same file frequently from multiple points. Looking through the options that can be set up, I found a keyword-based page filter, QoS settings and a lot of other features I have not previously seen. For a mid-range wireless router this one has a generous set of features. Of course, the standard features are there - firewall, MAC filtering as mentioned above, different encryption key types and a lot more too. This is a very nice router with a nice feature set. It is very easy to set up, easy to configure once it's running, and so far has proven to be stable. If you need more than a basic wireless router, consider this one as a good candidate. This review is from: NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless-N300 Gigabit Router with USB WNR3500L (Personal Computers) It's great to have a router out there that recognizes that customers just want the freaking thing to work, and don't care who wrote or maintains the firmware. With that in mind, I bought this router to replace another Wireless-N router that was simply a nightmare, with glitchy firmware from two years ago, and will now find a new home or function via Craigslist or something. I was up and running using the stock firmware in about 5 minutes, accessing the router configuration page and setting up a secure wireless network. I didn't try any of the quick-install software - usually like to just set the thing up myself without putting any software on my machine, and for this it worked perfectly. More importantly, this router is open-source-firmware ready, so if for any reason the stock firmware fails me, I'll have an option out there to try, as opposed to the endless struggles of my prior router. My setup includes a wired WHS, a Snow Leopard wireless-N macbook, a wireless PC using a 'G' card (Win7), another wireless laptop also using G, a Wii, an XBox using a wired connection, and another wired media-center PC, running Win7, and an iPhone 2G. Powers everything without flaw. This review is from: NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless-N300 Gigabit Router with USB WNR3500L (Personal Computers) I was looking for a quality Wireless N router with gigabit connections and DD-wrt compatible. This fit the bill, so I grabbed one to try out. I've tried a Linksys (320N) and a D-link to much disappointment, but this Netgear performs flawlessly. I downloaded dd-wrt firmware for it and never tried the stock Netgear stuff ([...]). DD-wrt performs flawlessly on this! No drops, great signal strength. Took me maybe 20 minutes to set up, from opening box to getting everything online. I run 3 desktops wired, one desktop wireless, and 2 wireless laptops and they all connect without issue. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for Wireless N. I have not tried the USB functionality, as all my data is shared through my computer already. 1 Year Warranty might as well be 90 days I bought this router last Nov., but it wasn't installed until January. Owned for 2.5 months and never had to reset yet. by Brock Huffaker Great router We needed something that would boost the signal in our house, and this one did it. No more "looking for networks" and dropped connections. by Rachael Bush Finally a wireless router that works!!! I tried Linksys twice. I tried D-Link. Now Netgear has come through. No more resetting the router. by Jonathan Frost Netgear no more... This router worked fine for 14 months. Then, it just died. Isn't that amazing! I wonder how they do that. Nothing I tried would bring it back to life. by Ed Hack One of the most versatile routers out there! Very third-party firmware friendly (dd-wrt, tomatousb, etc.). But the Netgear firmware makes it a very fast router. Very little power consumption. by Lord Grenville On the long run, zero stars. This is the second one from Netgear, this will be the last one ever. Both died after a short time. First they failed only shortly, then complete. by V. Sassmannshausen Useless even as a paperweight! DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER. PERIOD. The customer service is in India and although the technicians are very polite, even after numerous emails they have been unable to get my router... by Gerald Excellent performance - mid-range mid-price router! Received the product as advertised. So far, the wireless router has worked very well. I've not tested it for maximum speed, etc. by AG Does everything it needs to do. The router was easy to set up, works great and does everything it needs to do. Its a small simple box so it tucks away nicely. Don't anticipate any problems. by j |

Solution for adding extra monitors to my Win7 laptop This review is from: Plugable USB 2.0 Universal Laptop Docking Station with DisplayLink DVI/VGA up to 1920x1080, Audio, Ethernet, and 4 Available High-Speed USB 2.0 Ports (Electronics) I have been looking for a way to connect multiple monitors to my laptop for a very long time (solutions that won't cost an arm or leg, like those Magma express-card extenders). I was so used to having 3 monitors plugged into my laptop's docking station in XP era, but with the arrival of Vista it stopped working. I used the Tritton USB2VGA device back then, but they have never managed to deliver reliable drivers for Vista or now Windows 7. So I was stuck with only two screens for a few years (as none of the laptop docking ports I know offers three monitor ports, at best you get two -- VGA and DVI). At the CES 2010 I've met with the CEO of Plugable and got a comprehensive overview of their Universal Docking Station product -- which prompted me to buy TWO of them, one for office usage, and another one for home. And I could not be happier with it! The guy used to run the Microsoft USB team, which boosted my confidence that the hardware drivers would be well maintained, and my installation experienced has proved it. Once you plug this product into your PC's USB port (or laptop docking station's port as in my case) Windows finds the new hardware and just starts downloading and installing the drivers from the Windows Update. It finds about 6 or 7 hardware components (this docking station provides you with 4 USB ports, DVI monitor -- with VGA tranciever -- LAN port and Speakers/Microphone ports). So it is not a trivial device, and I've never seen the drivers installation running so smoothly. Within a minute or two I was prompted to accept some license agreement, and then was able to configure the layout of my monitors through the windows screen resolution box (pointing out which one is left, center and right and setting the resolutions). I did reboot, just to make sure :) My laptop is running Windows 7 64 bit, it's Toshiba 700m. It drives a monitor through this USB station at 1280x1024 32bit, plus two more monitors are plugged into the laptop's port replicator (via VGA and DVI). Unlike the previous Tritton USB2VGA product I had experience with, this one is actually quite fast. It has its own grapnics chip inside and I could not notice any significant CPU workload increase when dragging some "active" windows with refreshable content (like Internet browser with Silverlight or Flash animation) into its monitor. You would not want to play a video in a USB-connected monitor, but I have tried anyway and it did play the 720p I've thrown at it (though it looked more like 720i -- you could see the video lines were interlaced). However it works seemlessly for Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and for keeping an Internet browser window there -- which are my usage scenarios. It did drop my Windows Performance Score from 3.5 to 3.1, but I am quite fine with it. It does support the Windows Aero (the window bars are semi-transparent and you can see through them). I also have my audio speakers plugged into this docking station, and it emmits clear sound without any problems. The Toshiba port replicator LACKS audio ports, so every time when plugging my laptop into it I had to plug the 3.5 audio connector directly into the laptop -- which was very annoying. Not anymore! I have not tried the LAN port yet, but given how smothly everything else works, would not expect any problems with it. Having the 4 extra USB 2.0 ports is also nice; all my USB wires (phone charger, headset, scanner etc.) are now always plugged, connecting the devices on a single dock, and between the original port replicator and this one I still have couple spare USB ports left. If I remember correctly, the CEO told me you can plug more than one Dock to your PC for the benefit of all the extra monitors -- but I have not tried it. Overall, I am VERY pleased with this product, and now enthusiasticly evangelize it to my colleagues at work. Check it out -- you won't regret it! 48 of 53 people found the following review helpful: Plugable Universal USB 2.0 Docking Station This review is from: Plugable USB 2.0 Universal Laptop Docking Station with DisplayLink DVI/VGA up to 1920x1080, Audio, Ethernet, and 4 Available High-Speed USB 2.0 Ports (Electronics) Installed on 2/27/2010 this review written on 3/30/2010: PROS: * Considering that this is unit is one of the FEW available universal docking stations that works with Windows 7 (at this time and date). Know that I never tried using the USB to video connection but everything else seems to work as advertised. * No drivers to manually install they will auto-install with your next Windows update (the manufacturer appears to be sleeping with Microsoft). ======================== CONS: * The unit is VERY light and after connecting a bunch of cables to it, it becomes unbalanced and tends to tip or get pushed to one side or the other. Being a bit of a metal artist I cut a spare of 1/4 steel to size and glued it to its bottom (problem resolved). I wouldn't expect them to add a weight to future models because this would triple the shipping costs. * The motherboard is NOT mounted tight up against its plastic housing so when you insert a USB cable its sort of loose and wiggley. I would think after a year of plugging things in and out the solder joints on the internal USB connectors would fatigue. Right now its new so who am I to say what it will or will not do. At any rate its basic structure feels cheesey (seems to be a Chinese proverb these days). Basic Rating "If you need a dock that works Windows 7 you don't have alot of other choices" This review is from: Plugable USB 2.0 Universal Laptop Docking Station with DisplayLink DVI/VGA up to 1920x1080, Audio, Ethernet, and 4 Available High-Speed USB 2.0 Ports (Electronics) I have windows 7. All I did was plug all my devices in then plug the docking station into the wall and lastly connect it to my computer. My computer found and installed all the correct drivers and the whole thing worked right from the start. With other docking stations I read lots of reviews about how they never really worked quite right. Not so with this one. It worked from minute one. It's really nice to have two monitors and use the big monitor for most things and then just have the laptop monitor as an accessory monitor. The only real drawback to it is that sometimes mouse movement on the docked monitor can be a bit sluggish. I guess that's the drawback of have all these other items docked through a single USB port. Horrible!! First let me say that I am not a novice. I know how to do lots of technical stuff, so this is not a review from someone who just can't figure things out. by D. Lonergan Does what I need it to. I have a 14.1" laptop that is, quite frankly, too small for my over-40 eyes. My boat-anchor desktop finally bit the dust, and I needed a solution - quickly. by Oklahoma Mom Awesome product - very easy to install I used to buy specific vendor docking stations and it becomes a very big issue when buying new computers. No longer an issue with this USB docking station. by ttdang123 Very Pleased Was exactly what I was looking for. It enabled me to hook up everything and just plug one usb cable to my computer. by Frank Good Laptop Dock It does the job. I am able to extend my video from my laptop to a 22" LCD screen using this USB dock. The video looks good but there is a slight delay. by Andrew Good buy Great to have for a laptop when you want to use it like a desktop. Really easy to install (pretty idiot-proof). by John Easy setup-worked as advertised I received this product, took 15 minutes to setup. I have a Viao laptop which doesn't have a docking station made for it. by Cactusryder Finally a USB dock that works! Tried many other USB docks (Kensington, etc...) and found this to be the only one that actually works 100%. No glitches, no freezes, no BSOD's...it just works as needed. by Greg Coley Great device Bought this to replace a docking station for Dell laptop and have been using for a week. Installation was simple. by Todd Ervin Works for me I looked into a lot of universal USB docking options. I have a desktop and need to be able to dock 2 different laptops to use the same monitor/keyboard etc. by Melissa Martin |

This review is from: Firewire DV Cable Camcorder For Canon Sony Sharp JVC (Electronics) I was annoyed to find that the equipment that came with my new camcorder did not include a cable to connect the camera to my computer. The USB cable that the manufacturer supplied was useless; I could find no software to recognize the connection. I tried locating this cable at a couple of stores in the area, then ordered this. Well, it works great! It fits the camera, something that "standard" firewire cables don't do. Adobe Premier recognized the connection as soon as I plugged it in and downloaded video for editing. Now for the hard part: Reducing 2 hours of HD video to something viewable. This review is from: Firewire DV Cable Camcorder For Canon Sony Sharp JVC (Electronics) My JVC camcorder would absolutely not "talk" to my computer before acquiring this firewire. This review is from: Firewire DV Cable Camcorder For Canon Sony Sharp JVC (Electronics) I couldn't of been happier with this cable. The one I received was nicer than the one shown, it was exactly what I needed and at a greatly reduced price. I looked all over town and could find one even went to the JVC online store not there.
